Big Brother 1999

There are products out there to monitor employees right now, companies
such as NetManage that enable employers to view exactly what is on the
employee's screen. (Including any personal email the employee might be writing)

But here's something you may not know that Microsoft has been incorporating similar technology to monitor your internet access and have been doing it since the release of NT 4.0 and later when Windows 98 was released with this software already enabled.

As reported in the March 15th issue of InfoWorld, the statement from Microsoft
officials say: "Its a bug and not a feature."

The article goes on to say: "Windows Sends your user profile and hardware
configuration - right down to the Ethernet address of your network card -
to Microsoft."
- Infoworld, Mar 15, 1999.

Just makes you wonder what they are doing with all the information they have collected. Theoretical this information could be used to probe unprotected corporate networks.

With such "bugs" out there, it is no wonder that privacy groups are in an uproar
about the Pentium III serial number scheme.
