How to handle those long start menu listings
If you are tired of having so many programs listed in your start menu, you can make these changes to allow multiple columns:
This is for Windows 98 with Internet Explorer 5 users.
First - Backup your registry always before manipulating it!
1. Run Regedit - If you aren't sure how, then maybe you should
get someone who has used it before to make these changes.
2. Expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer
key.
3. Click the Advanced folder once to select it.
4. Right click somewhere there is an empty spot.
5. Click NEW
6. Select Text Value
7. For a name enter: StartMenuScrollPrograms and hit enter
8. Right click the value you just created and select MODIFY
9. In the VALUE DATA BOX type false then click OK
10. Click REGISTRY then close Regedit.
If you happen to mess up your registry - you can type the following
in the Command Prompt:
scanreg/restore
If you have tried these tips, and can't get it to work, please do not email - check out a good site about the windows registry and try again. Make sure you have typed everything EXACTLY and re-check for typos or if anything is in the wrong spot.
