I Want My AOL
And Money For Nothing?
By: Charles Randolf
There is definitely a new trend of giving away items- with certain strings attached on the Internet lately; From free web space, email accounts and now computers even, it sure looks like a strings attached world.
Europe is having a great success with their free 'Net access plans,
as most Europeans having trouble affording the often times expensive internet access charges.
Most free Internet programs are only available to students or teachers,
and are inadequately funded, which leads to slow connections or busy signals, but now privatized ventures are changing this.
AOL President Robert Pittman is suggesting they are moving in this direction. Speaking on CNBC, Pittman states there is no threat from the "free Net access" trend sweeping Europe, but also adds the concept could be a good and economical way to give new users the 'Net experience.
This news is coming on the heels of the AOL plan to speed up their gateways and ISP access lines.
In Conclusion
You can even get free long distance now a days, just by listening to a few adds and completing your call, but where is the future leading us?
It looks like a new economy that will make an industry such as advertising a virtual power leader.
