About WebNovice
Why Are We Doing This?No matter what newspaper you read or television report you see, the explosive growth of the Internet is quoted from one source or another. You'll get different figures from different sources, but the bottom line is the Internet is growing by leaps and bounds. Thousands of new users log on every day ready to experience this strange new world.
And, there's a good reason for it. On the 'Net, people have access to a seemingly unlimited resource of news, information, and entertainment. Documents and information that previously was locked away in dusty archives and available to only a privileged few, is now just a few mouse clicks away. Simply magic.
Until recently the Internet was never easy to use. Now, thanks to the creation of the World Wide Web, just about anything you want to see or do on the 'Net is practically a no-brainer.
The main problem for new users is finding out what they can do -- how they can do it -- what tools do use -- how to get the tools -- etc. That's why we created WebNovice Online.
The Internet has a sort of tradition where seasoned users help those who are new find answers to the question How do I . . .(fill in your question here) And, it's in Plain Language so you don't need a degree in computer science to understand it.
WebNovice Online will try to answer those questions with timely, up-to-date answers. You'll find out how to use the Internet to chat with other users, transfer files to your computer, get free software, create a web page of your own, how to use search engines, and much, much more. In short, we'll try to get you the information you need to perform the tasks veteran Web users take for granted.
Unlike publications produced on paper, publishing on the Web permits us to do things a bit differently. By using this new medium to reach audiences, we can provide an almost instant and personal link to readers. And, by listening to what you say that you want to know or see, we can respond by changing our presentation to reflect what you need to see and learn.
If you have a question or suggestion that you feel may contribute to the content on WebNovice Online, you're invited to submit it directly to me. We can't possibly personally answer every question presented to us but, those that present a common problem that our writers may overlook will be answered in a detailed feature article. Submit your questions via email to webnovice@uscities.net.
I hope that you find the pages and content of WebNovice Online an invaluable resource to you while you explore this new and wonderful world known as The Internet.
